Robin Wayne Bailey is a best-selling fantasy and science fiction author and a former president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. (SFWA).
Robin is the author of numerous novels and short stories. His works include the best-selling DRAGONKIN books, a series written in the tradition of WATERSHIP DOWN and the REDWALL, for adults, young adults, and children alike.
He’s also the author of the FROST saga, a series of novels and short stories that include FROST, SKULL GATE, and BLOODSONGS, were recently re-published in omnibus hardback and trade paperback editions as NIGHT’S ANGEL.
Robin’s novelette, “The Children’s Crusade,” was a 2008 nominee for the Nebula Award. His short fiction has appeared in many magaz
ines and anthologies, including SCIENCE FICTION: THE BEST OF 2001, and SILICON DREAMS, FUTURE IMPERFECT, FAR FRONTIERS, GUARDSMEN OF TOMORROW, THE CHICK IS IN THE MAIL, X-MEN: LEGENDS, and THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF XENA, and many others. He was a regular contributor to the million-selling THIEVES WORLD fantasy anthologies.Robin has also written the BROTHERS OF THE DRAGON series, SHADOWDANCE, and NIGHTWATCH, among others. His Fritz Leiber-inspired Fafhrd and Gray Mouser novel, SWORDS AGAINST THE SHADOWLAND was named one of the seven best fantasy novels of 1998 by the Science Fiction Chronicle
He’s edited THROUGH MY GLASSES DARKLY, a collection of short stories by noted author Frank M. Robinson (KaCSFFS Press), and the critically lauded ARCHITECTS OF DREAMS: THE SFWA AUTHOR EMERITUS ANTHOLOGY.
He’s also recently ventured into pulp comic book writing with a story called “The Chaos-Maker” for Moonstone Comics’ ongoing series, THE SPIDER: JUDGEMENT KNIGHT.
Robin’s contributions to the field of science fiction and fantasy extend beyond just his writing. He served for nine years on the Board of Directors of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA), and has hosted three Nebula Awards events. In 1996, in conjunction with the Kansas City Science Fiction and Fantasy Society and James Gunn and the J.Wayne and Elsie M. Gunn Center for the Study of Science Fiction, he worked to found the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Hall of Fame. In 2004, the Hall of Fame merged with Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Enterprises in Seattle and become part of the new Science Fiction Musem and Hall of Fame. He continues to serve on the Hall of Fames induction committee for the new museum.
Robin Wayne Bailey lives in North Kansas City, Missouri and sometimes teaches as an adjunct instructor at Longview College. He’s married to Diana Bailey, the current director of the Kansas City Science Fiction & Fantasy Society, and is a longtime member of KaCSFFS.
