Elizabeth Moon grew up in south Texas and started writing at an early age.   She has degrees from Rice University (history) and the University of Texas at Austin (biology), and served three years active duty in the Marines, from 1968-71.

E Moon Large PicMoon has published 26 novels,  including several series in both science fiction (Vatta’s War (Trading in Danger, etc.),  the Serrano Legacy (Hunting Party, etc.), Planet Pirates (Sassinak, Generation Warriors, with Anne McCaffrey),  and epic fantasy (The Deed of Paksenarrion, The Legacy of Gird, and  Paladin’s Legacy) in addition to two standalone novels.  She has been a finalist for both the Hugo (Remnant Population) and the Arthur C. Clarke Award (The Speed of Dark), and The Speed of Dark won the Nebula Award.  In 2007, she won the Robert A. Heinlein Award for her body of work.  She has over 30 shorter works in magazines and anthologies, most recently her collection Moon Flights (Nightshade Books 2007)  Her latest novel is Crown of Renewal  (Del Rey, May, 2014), fifth and final volume of Paladin’s Legacy.

Besides writing, her other interests include classical music, prairie restoration, wildlife management, horses, Renaissance-style fencing, nature photography and biomedical science.   She likes dark chocolate,  the color red,  steam trains, and summer rain.  Moon lives in a small central Texas town with her husband, a horse, a cat, and a John Deere tractor named Bombadil.
