    1. International Games Day @ North Branch Library
      10:00 am – 5:00 pm

      International Games Day @ your library is an initiative of the American Library Association to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games.

      In the 21st century, libraries are about much more than books. On Saturday, November 3, 2012, two thousand libraries around the world will showcase gaming programs and services in support of IGD12. This year marks our 5th annual event. In 2011, more than 27,700 people played games at more than 1,400 libraries across the U.S. and in other countries.  The Denton Public Library and A-Kon are proud to host a local event of IGD12.

      Come to the Denton North Branch Library on November 3, 2012 and meet these great people;

      Madoka Magica MovieThe Madoka Magica movie is coming to Dallas on December 29 — courtesy of Aniplex of America, Eleven Arts, and The Texas Theater — and A-Kon is going to be on hand to add our own brand of fun to the mix! The folks at the Texas Theater have graciously agreed to let A-Kon help out at the screening, so please come out and join us for an  A-Kon outing at the theater starting at 1:00, where we’ll spend a little time to chat with fans and take pictures before the film starts.

      Then, it’s off to the movies! The Madoka Magica double feature starts at 2:00 PM and will run until 6:00 PM, with a short intermission between shows. This screening is for the first and second Madoka Magica movies (the third movie has not yet been released). Tickets can be purchased here for $20 each (plus a $0.50 convenience fee per ticket). A-Kon does not receive any of these proceeds.

      While you’re waiting, more information about the movies can be found at the AniplexUSA.com and MadokaMagicaUSA.com websites.

      However, no event that A-Kon is involved with is complete without a little cosplay! We encourage all of our fans who our coming out to the show to get your favorite costumes together and wear them to the screening! We’ll take plenty of pictures and even send some choice photos to Aniplex so that they can also put them up for the world to see.

      A-Kon will have some prizes on hand to give away, including some Madoka Magica movie posters and this cute Madoka Kaname Nendoroid from the Good Smile Company!

      It’s important for fans to support these movies whenever the opportunity becomes available! Strong showings will help convince studios, distributors, and theaters to bring more anime features to American cinemas. And just so that Dallas isn’t left out, we have to convince them that we’re the right market for the movies to come to! How cool would it be if we can convince the industry to screen other animated feature films like Tiger and Bunny or The Wolf Children Rain and Snow in Dallas theaters?

      We’re still quite a ways from filling up the theater (The Texas Theater is pretty big!), but if we get enough folks into those seats, we might be able to get them to add more showings.Let’s show them the power of our fandom!

      About A Letter to Momo:
      The last time Momo saw her father, they had a fight — and now all she has left to remember him by is an incomplete letter that he had started to write her, a blank piece of paper penned with the words “Dear Momo,” but nothing more. Moving with her mother from bustling Tokyo to the remote Japanese island of Shio, she soon discovers three goblins living in her attic, a trio of mischievous spirit creatures who have been assigned to watch over her and only she can see. The goblins are also perpetually famished and begin to wreak havoc on the formerly tranquil island, ransacking pantries and ravaging orchards — acts for which Momo often has to take the blame. But these funny monsters also have a serious side, and may hold the key to helping Momo understand what her father had been trying to tell her.

      120 min. Ages 7 and up. In Japanese with English subtitles.
