Project A-Kon® 19 Saturday Night Cosplay Competition Rules and Regulations

Eligibility.

Anyone may enter in the Saturday Night Cosplay event. Entrants 13 and under must have their parents permission to enroll, and MUST be accompanied by a legal guardian or relative of age at signup AND the show itself.

A Note on Children entering the Saturday Night Cosplay: Every Child Entrant for the A-Kon® 19 Saturday Night Cosplay is given a special award at the end of the show. This award includes a Ribbon and small Toy or Doll donated by the sponsors.

Entering the Show.

Signup for the A-Kon® 19 Saturday Night Cosplay will begin on Saturday May 31st at 10am in the Cosplay Prep Room. (Panel Room To Be announced). And will continue until full. The Number of Entrants that will be allowed this year is 75. This is the sum total of 25 Skits, and 50 Walk-ons. There will also be Tickets for waiting list entries.

Signup Procedure.

At 10:00 Am on Saturday May 31st, there will be two entry lines. One will be for "Skit" Entries, and the other will be for "Walk-on" Entries. Entry tickets will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

Waiting List.

During the sign-up procedure, some entrants may change their mind about entering or be disqualified. At this time, their Entry Ticket will be available to the first person on the waiting list. Once all Entry tickets have been accepted and assigned an entry number, no further entries will be allowed and the waiting list applicants will be dismissed.

Costume Guidelines.

No costume is NO COSTUME.

While there are many popular Anime/fiction characters that wear what many would consider "normal clothes," a single character in street clothes isn't very engaging at all, and thus disqualified.  However, if this character is part of a group performance or if an elaborate prop is involved, than the entry will not be disqualified.

Body Coverage.

Project A-Kon® 19 is a family-friendly environment and has to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by both the Adams Mark Hotel and the City of Dallas. All costumes need to be tasteful, and the barest minimum of coverage that will be allowed at the event will be that of a bikini. This means that body paint, latex pasties, etc are not considered adequate body coverage without additional clothing worn over it. Thongs are not allowed unless covered by shorts, skirt, cape, etc.

Content Guidelines.

COSPLAY IS AN ALL AGES EVENT. The Cosplay should be considered a PG rated event. All music and pre-recorded materials will be screened and any and all violators of this rule will be evicted immediately. Yes, even mid-performance. The judgment of what is acceptable and what will be evicted or disqualified is up to the Cosplay Director and the Judges. Sexual humor is not allowed. This covers yaoi, mpreg, yuri, masturbation, etc.  If you have a question about content within your skit, feel free to post a question on the forums or email the Cosplay coordinators for clarification.  However, if you feel the need to clarify, more than likely it would be best to remove the content.

New Notice!!!  All skits will be required to provide a hard copy of their script (hand written is fine) at the cosplay line up to be reviewed for content.  If the change required is minimal (i.e. one word, or perhaps one joke) we  will allow that to be changed.  If it's completely out of line (i.e. Dead Baby Jokes) it will be disqualified and replaced with a waiting list contestant

Stage Rules.

All Entries must be able to get on and off the stage safely.

Cast Limit: Five person maximum for group performances. More than Five is allowed, but only five on stage at a time.

Props: What goes on the stage with you come off the stage with you. For safety reasons things like confetti, fireworks, flash paper or other forms of pyrotechnics, rose petals, water, and other small messy objects are strictly forbidden from the stage area. On stage, (non firing) toy weapons will be allowed without peacebonding but be aware that any "live" weapons will result in an immediate eviction. Also, no food, animals or remote control devices.

Martial Arts/Stage Fighting: All Stage-fighting and general hijinks needs to be limited to Half Speed and Quarter Strength and one foot must remain on the floor at all times. This means no Jumps, Leaps, or Rolls. Climbing onto, or Jumping off of the stage is both prohibited and extremely dangerous.

The Time Limits for a Walk-on is 30 Seconds. The Time Limit for a Skit Performance is 2 Minutes.

Also, please attend the Cosplay FAQ session panel, which will be held on Friday May 30th from 10:30AM to 11:30AM (Panel Room to be Announced)

Additional note on Craftsmanship Award: Having a reference picture would be extremely helpful to the judges, but please make it a photocopy or a print out.  We won't accept expensive art books, because of all the things that go on during the show, it could easily get lost.
