Safety Tips for gathering at the Hotel.

Following these tips can be very useful for your safety.

The area around Adams Mark is pretty nice, mostly surrounded by upper class hotels and businesses, and the Arts District. It's certainly not one of the areas in Dallas I'd feel unsafe in.

Granted, there are a few things you want to remember, but this is true for ANY city:
  • Lock, take, hide. If you drive, lock your care, take anything valuable with you, and if you can't take it, hide it well. The Adams Mark IS in a nice area, but this is just really sound advice whenever you leave your car anywhere public overnight.
  • Don't go out after dark alone. Again, sound advice.Take at least a friend with you. Carry a cellphone if possible. Stay in well lit areas.
  • Don't carry large amounts of cash or other valuables on you when you leave the convention area. (I wouldn't even carry it at the convention, honestly).
These are just some general common sense things to do.

If you're looking for places to eat, there's plenty of restaurants around in addition to what's in the hotel. Deep Ellum is across the freeway to the east - the Plaza of the Americas is diagonally across the street to the north - ride the DART train south a few stops, and there's sit-down restaurants galore in the West End - ride the train north, and you have even more choices if you're willing to walk for a few minutes from the train station. Just a note: if you walk around West End, especially in the evening hours, and you're with a group of people, expect to be semi-hounded by guys trying to sell flowers to "couples" (whether you're with your honey or not is irrelevant to them).
