There's plenty of variety available when it comes to eating out in downtown Dallas. Not only is there the food available in the Sheraton and the Plaza of the Americas, but there's a lot of restaurants to choose from in the western half of downtown, as well as a few attractions you might want to check out (like the Dallas Museum of Art, or Hard Rock Cafe). The areas listed here give a general view of what you might find while wandering around the downtown area, as well as a link to a site that has a virtual map of downtown.
A good site to find information on the restaurants and stores listed here is Guidelive.com
Plaza of the Americas
As you can see, Many of the eateries and retail services in the Plaza do not stay open late, or do not open on the weekend. The Plaza shops and restaurants operate the days and hours they do to serve the folks who work mundane, Monday through Friday, 9-5 jobs. If a large enough crowd from a convention being hosted at the Sheraton or the Marriott hotel invades the PotA during the weekend, some places will extend their hours; however, that is not a rule set in stone. Please keep in mind that the days and hours of operation listed here are subject to change before or during the convention.
Please note that the Plaza is not a 24/7 place. After 10 p.m. or so, the security crew usually won't allow folks to linger in the atrium unless they're a guest at the Marriot - and sometimes not even then. However, it IS a great place to meet up during the morning, afternoon and evening hours, with plenty of tables and chairs surrounding the ice rink, and plenty of places to eat!

There are many places to eat and clubs to go to in Deep Ellum, a two minute drive from the hotel (or five minute walk), but all I can think of at the moment are places like the The Church/Lounge Lizard, and Cafe Brazil. Been too long since I've cruised through there and looked around.
