Last year, one of the things that created difficulty for a number of our attendees was the amount of money that was put “On Hold” by the hotel front desk staff when you checked into a room. Please understand that an amount has ALWAYS been placed on hold upon checking in, this is an industry standard hotel policy. 2009 was the first time it was such a large amount ($50 per day).

Because of the issues that came out of this practice, we met with the hotel and here is what we came up with as a solution:

For our weekend at the Sheraton, the standard practice will be that there will be NO “On Hold” charges when checking into a room. This means that there will be NO room service (you can still order, but MUST pay in cash) or in house phone or movies available in the rooms. IF you WANT these services, you MUST inform the front desk staff. They will then take a credit card and put a hold on it in order to turn those services on.

We (both A-Kon® and the Sheraton Hotel) hope that this will remove some of the issues that were encountered last year.

Debit Card Holds on Your Account

A question that has come up many times before from our attendees upon checking into the hotel is why there is an extra amount of money put on hold on their debit card. The main reason for this comes from the actual amount of money that is entered from the merchant, in this case the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. Prior to 2010, the amount held had always included an extra amount per day for room incidentals (in room phone, room service and in room movies).  This year, the hotel has agreed NOT to put an amount on hold for incidentals, unless YOU ask for them at check in. This should result in ONLY the Room and Tax per day being held on your debit card.
