FANS Conference

A-Kon® is proud to host the Sixth Annual Fandom and Neomedia Studies (FANS) Conference. FANS is an internationally recognized academic organization dedicated to bringing you, the fans, and all the things you care about into the academic forefront. Want to do a school project on your favorite manga or video game? Want to find ways to get your students interested in their work while integrating elements of their fandom? Come talk to us and we can show you how. Our past presenters have represented 37 states and 19 foreign countries and all of it is available to read for free in our journal, The Phoenix Papers.

Access to all FANS Conference programming is free for all A-Kon® attendees. Additionally, A-Kon® attendees are welcome to sit in on FANS presentations, Q&A sessions, and our Thursday evening movie and discussion night. A-Kon® attendees are also invited to submit papers of their own for the conference and journal, or for our newest publication, Monumenta Mythica.

Presentations range from topics on cosplay and esports to gaming and anime. Experts in fields ranging from geopolitics to psychology and from history to literature have graced our stage. You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest updates. Feel free to send us any questions you may have about sitting in on one of our panels or submitting your own. We look forward to meeting you.
